(Commercial Steel-Type B) specifications. These steel sheets and coils are produced through a continuous hot-dip galvanizing process, where cold finished coils are immersed in molten zinc. As the steel exits the zinc bath, both the coating weight and surface appearance are precisely controlled to deliver a consistent, protective layer.
What Is Galvanized Steel?
Hot-dip galvanized steel features a protective zinc coating bonded to the steel surface, delivering superior corrosion resistance. The zinc barrier protects the base steel from rust and weather exposure, not only shielding the surface, but also sacrificing itself (through a process called galvanic action) to protect any exposed steel or sheared edges. This dual action makes galvanized steel ideal for demanding environments and projects requiring long-term durability.

G-90 Coating and Surface Quality
Reliance Sheet & Strip‘s galvanized steel is supplied with a G-90 coating designation, meaning the combined zinc coating on both sides totals at least 0.90 ounces per square foot, the industry standard for reliable, exterior-grade rust protection. After coating, our sheets undergo a chemical passivation treatment to further inhibit the formation of white rust. The surface is typically marked by “spangles,” unique flowery crystalline patterns whose size and shape may vary between sheets.

G-30 Coating and Surface Quality

Created in collaboration with computer industry engineers, G-30 is designed specifically for demanding electronic and computer chassis applications that require exceptional weldability, corrosion protection, formability, conductivity, and paintability.
G-30 coating weight (0.30 ounces of zinc per square foot in total) provides a cost-effective level of corrosion resistance well-suited for indoor, dry, or lightly corrosive environments.
